Criminology is a science where we approach a case how it has taken place, what was the physical and mental condition of the person who committed it how it affected the victim's life and the series of events related to how and why it took place.
We can generally notice that men commit more crimes and it’s due to different conditions covered in this blog.
As per the records and the evidence found from the past, it is clear that actually, men have experienced more physical crime as compared to women, either it is from bullying in the school, colleges or basically in the groups and by the strangers on the streets.
However, the person who is committing such crimes are also men whose number is quite greater than women.
Based on domestic violence is more commonly found that it is the men as compared to women who commit such crimes and it is generally against women of the families – most often it is the wife who suffers the most, however mother and sister can also never be neglected from this.
As per the data collected from various research, it is clear that men often commit more crimes when compared to women.
The % age of jail occupancy by men and women in Indian states is 70.67% and 51.56% according to 2018-2020 reports which clearly proves that men are much involved in crime as compared to females. As it can provide one of the aspects to prove this.
Life experiences can cause a major drift of mind and its activity to commit a crime. It can be due to various reasons like Individual characteristics and how a person or individual is responding to a situation in life.
A person’s personal surroundings and environmental factors play an important role. It can be due to:
Family – Children usually learn things from what they see in the family and domestic violence is quite prevalent in India for a long time. So accordingly they absorb that it’s their responsibility to control women in their house which generally leads to another generation committing the same crime.
Schooling – Schooling plays an important role in nurturing the children, if they learn malpractices like harassment and another physical bullying it is quite seen that it become their lifestyle.
Past experience – Sometimes there are some crimes that are done against the children and that is embedded in them which clearly burst out after some time and they can also commit crime-either physical bullying or male dominancy.
Society - Society plays an important and crucial role in this as well to some context like they teaches men not to show the feelings which when piled up are released in form of crime and it is clearly observed in last decade that the most decent individuals commit crime due to their piling up.
There can be various factors that can drive men to commit crimes. Major ones are discussed below-
1. Masculinity
2. Loss of conscious
3. Risk-taking nature- adventures
4. To try different things
5. Society teachings
6. Peer pressure
7. Aldosterone rush
8. Past life
9. Male dominance
10. Male ego
Earlier until 1970, there was no term like marital rape, and it was significant in India until early 2000 which has enhanced the mentality of men for being dominant.
However, due to various protests and campaigning people are aware of these important as well as crucial events that have been seen prevalent in society. Strict laws have been imposed on it after all.
According to David Farrington it is the factors that play different roles in the life of males and females. Generally, men do pile up things rather than the female which causes one of the reasons that they lose their self-control and commit crimes. The main reason is due to the gender divide which can easily be noticed in Indian society.
According to this theory, it is more likely in the nature of men to take risks or in other words, they are more thrill seekers which in turn put women at the risk for the same. Many such incidents have been noticed not only in India but worldwide.
According to Nagaire nattine it is the natural order which lets drive men to commit a crime it can be due to reasons like masculinity, dominance, and status.
Many such crimes have been seen worldwide committed by men in name of dominance, their status, and the drift of masculinity.
There is a need for hours to properly guide and teach not only men but also women about terms like equality and it is normal to say things openly and there is no need for dominance in any terms this can be supported by setting up equality among gender, narrowing down the gender gap.
As per reports and history, it was clearly prevalent that man is more involved in criminal activities as compared to women.
It is due to various reasons like adolescence rush, peer pressure, family responsibilities, male ego, and dominance.
However, it is the need of the hour that proper counseling and nature building classes should be introduced in our society or there must be a person whom an individual can share their problems and it should be taught there it’s the era of equality so there is no need of male ego and male dominance. In such order, we can lower the stats of crimes committed by the man.
