Audio-Video forensics is the field of forensic science that involves the scientific interpretation of audio & video recordings which are obtained from a civil investigation or criminal legal proceedings. It generally involves the acquisition, analysis, and evaluation of audio & video recordings that may ultimately be presented as admissible evidence in a court of law or some other official venue. It is prevalent in the investigation of crimes such as terrorism, extortion, intimidation, espionage, drug trafficking, kidnapping, and ransom demands, stalking, personal disputes, etc. Speaker identification in the context of forensic is all about comparing voices. It involves the comparison of one or more samples of an offender’s voice with one or more samples of a suspect’s voice. It could be useful in various cases such as dispute cases, security control for information, matrimonial cases, terrorist attacks, fraud cases, etc.

Rajesh Arrested in Cyber Fraud

Rajesh, 27 years old man was arrested by the city police. He was charged with cheating the software engineer, Mumbai. The internet system was used by Rajesh as he posed himself as a woman and stole the money from his money account. Rajesh was a resident of Ambalamukku and the internet café was run by him at Chenthitta. He contacted the engineer through the internet and made him a friend. According to Sheen Tharayil, Sub-inspector, Thampanoor police station, he introduced himself as ‘Renuka’. A voice converter was used by him to disguise his voice. Later, a photo from the marriage bureau was forwarded to the engineer. Engineer provided the credit card and code to Renuka for withdrawing Rs. 2,500 to purchase the flight ticket to Mumbai. The engineer also booked a room for Renuka. But nobody reached Mumbai. The software engineer received a massage of withdrawing Rs. 22,000 from his credit card, according to the investigation.
