The internet is the most powerful investigative tool available to anyone who knows how to use it. The difference between a casual user and a skilled OSINT investigator is not access. It's knowledge.

The Micro Credential Program in Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) teaches you how to gather, analyze, and apply publicly available information in real investigations. Digital trails are common across every platform, and the ability to find, connect, and interpret that information is one of the most valuable skills in modern intelligence and forensic work.

You will learn what OSINT actually is, how it works, what it can achieve, what its limitations are, its terminology, the OSINT lifecycle, and the methodologies that separate reliable intelligence gathering from aimless searching.

You will learn how to use social media platforms strategically to gather intelligence, analyze online behavior, and locate individuals even in cases where a subject has minimal or deliberately obscured social media presence.

In addition, the course covers digital footprint analysis, including metadata examination, reverse image searching, geolocation techniques, and identifying IP-related information. The program also introduces the role of the dark web and its significance in intelligence gathering.

Finally, the program focuses on analyzing and organizing collected data, linking information, identifying patterns, and preparing intelligence reports along with the significance of maintaining evidentiary integrity, proper documentation, and presenting findings effectively.

By the end of this program, you will see the open internet the way an investigator does and not as noise but as a map waiting to be read.

- What tools and search engines are used for gathering open source intelligence?

- How are advanced search techniques used to extract relevant information?

- How can investigators build knowledge frameworks for effective intelligence gathering?

- How are social media platforms used in intelligence and investigative processes?

- How can individuals be investigated even without active social media presence?

- What is a digital footprint, and how is it analyzed in investigations?

- How are metadata and reverse image search used in OSINT?

- What techniques are used for geolocation and identifying IP-related information?

- What is the role of the dark web in intelligence gathering?

- How is collected OSINT data structured, analyzed, and interpreted?

    MODULE 1 – OPEN-SOURCE INTELLIGENCE FUNDAMENTALS

In this module, you will learn about Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), its role in modern investigations and intelligence gathering; the intelligence lifecycle, including the processes of collection, analysis, and dissemination; and the goals, capabilities, applications, and limitations of OSINT. The module also explores the legal, ethical, and technical boundaries associated with OSINT to ensure responsible and effective use.

MODULE 2 – INVESTIGATIVE TECHNIQUES IN OSINT

This module focuses on practical techniques used in OSINT investigations, web-based and proprietary open-source search tools, and methods for building a strong understanding of investigative language and terminology. Advanced search strategies and ways to effectively use search engines to gather relevant intelligence, along with techniques for collecting and verifying information from publicly available sources, will also be covered.

MODULE 3 – SOCIAL MEDIA INVESTIGATIONS

This module teaches you the role of social media platforms in intelligence gathering and investigations, methods for analyzing social media activity, and how to extract valuable information during investigations. You will also gain insights about how to use social media for tracking individuals, identifying patterns, and gathering evidence along with techniques for investigating individuals who maintain minimal or no direct social media presence.

MODULE 4 – UNDERSTANDING DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS

This module focuses on the analysis of digital footprints left by individuals across various platforms and systems, metadata analysis in different file types, methods for reverse image searching, and techniques for identifying geolocation data and IP address information. Additionally, the concept of the dark web and its relevance in investigations, along with the challenges associated with accessing and analyzing such environments, will also be taught.

MODULE 5 – OSINT ANALYSIS, REPORTING, AND CASE DOCUMENTATION

This module explores the importance of organizing and interpreting intelligence gathered through OSINT, methods for structuring and analyzing collected data (linking data points and identifying patterns), analytical techniques used in intelligence interpretation, and best practices for reporting findings. It also covers the importance of maintaining evidentiary integrity and proper documentation standards to ensure that OSINT findings are admissible and reliable.
