    MODULE 9 - SPEAKER VERIFICATION

    This module introduces you to the concepts of speaker recognition, speech features, and speaker models; additional methods for managing variability, such as channel normalization and modeling and text constraint, verifying speakers via an artificial neural network, NIST speaker recognition evaluation, including one speaker detection, two speaker detection, speaker tracking, and speaker segmentation.

    You will also learn about the data domain covering speaker training and test segments, the factors influencing detection performance, including duration, pitch, handset differences, and distinctions between landline and cellular environments, and extended data evaluation.

    MODULE 10 - CULTURAL, SOCIAL, AND LEGAL CONSIDERATION

    In this module, you will learn about the societal and legal dimensions of biometric analysis, social impact, including the cultural considerations of privacy and the concept of individuality, legal issues, including liability and the legal implications for biometrics in the privacy domain, and data policies covering issues related to information sharing and the protection of biometric data.

    MODULE 11 - BIOMETRIC ON SMART CARD: AN ADVANCED TECHNIQUE

IDV: Remote Biometrics saved Arizona from losing $40B

Arizona Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) was a federally funded program that offered insurance benefits to unemployed individuals in the country during the pandemic.

However, the program could have suffered huge losses in fraudulent payouts if remote biometric identity verification to confirm an individual’s identity was not implemented.

This technique was used to detect fake claims, as people wanted to claim government assistant funds without automated identity verification during that time.

A public-private partnership was formed by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) with a firm named ID.me when it saw an extensive rise in unemployment insurance claims during the COVID-19 pandemic. A face biometric from Paravision was used for remote facial verification.

Additional funds were also released under the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) scheme, which caught the eye of various international fraudsters during this time.

The claims under the PUA scheme rose to over 266,000 (end of July) from just 77,000 (in May). The number of claims rose to 570,000 in October.

This resulted in DES partnering with Google to carry out fraud analysis on the millions of claims received. During the investigation, a vast number of claims were found to be fraudulent, and several fell under identity theft.

The department approached ID.me after analyzing its NIST IAL2 unsupervised remote identity assurance and video chat features and also seeing the huge reductions in fraudulent claims in states like Florida, Georgia, and Nevada after using their services.

The Arizona Department deployed ID.me in early December, and claims were reduced by 68%. The criminals quickly shifted their fraud activities to states where identity checks and biometrics were implemented by the company.
